Thanks Steve - very well put. About 4 years ago in the early days of the DER a member of the Education Department in Canberra gave a presentation here in Brissie (sorry - have forgotten his name - Mark Pesce spoke as well).
He stated that the Crucial Factors for success in education with IT were: * Leadership * need Risk Management NOT Risk aversion * Need knowledgeable & motivated leadership * An educational plan * Need an ICT Strategic Plan * Champions and Mentors * Help foster, don't impede * Good infrastructure is vital * Encourage and support teacher engagement - use recognition and reward I think that most schools are in Risk Aversion mode rather than Risk Management mode, and have been for a long time. It results in a problem we see all too regularly which we 'affectionately' title 'Ground Hog Day'.
