I found this tech page for installing Visual Basic 6.0 under WIN 7 Enterprise
edition.

It works.

  Rex,
Time to upgrade to VB 2010 express. I finally went that way this year. Other
posts in response are accurate. If you do upgrade, you will find the IDE much
more helpful, especially when teaching debugging.

You may need some help to get it working on MOE, depending on local policy
changes you have. We are still ironing out problems. The biggest change I
found, after using VB6 for years, are the many subtle changes. I have used
Graeme's Summers VB6 text happily for years as part of my class resources.
VB.NET, because of its scope, changes many small aspects of the language, and a
new text would provide a good companion (have just ordered a copy to peruse
Graeme). Referencing the changes via the Internet or VB 201o's access to online
help is very time consuming.

The upgrade though is very logical. No need to change to a new language for
the sake of it - we teach concepts. The upgrade path is worth it. I think I
would shrink into the nearest corner if I had to learn a new language for the
sake of it at my (still relatively young) age - and I love IT and its
challenges.

Subject: [qsiteict] Visual Basic 6.0 and Windows 7?

I have just tried to install my trusty (well it was trusty) version of Visual
Basic 6.0 onto my home computer (Windows 7 64-bit OS) and was told that it was
not compatible. I then tried to install it on my Education Queensland C4T
laptop (Windows 7 Enterprise Edition), and was unsuccessful there as well.

We have Windows 7 on on the school computers (not sure of the version), so I
am getting a bit worried.

Are any schools using Visual Basic 6.0 on a network with a Windows 7
operating system? If so, any problems? If so, any solutions?

  Cheers

  Rex
