Hi all,

Not sure it does present a huge problem - guess it depends how you have
set up your laptops. We can have the students log to their laptops as
the exam logins and then that provides limited access to their local
drives and/or Internet. You can monitor via LANSchool or DyKnow or
whatever monitoring software. A different desktop for exam logins would
make an easily visual check of the environment that a student is logged
on as.

Yes, I agree. The introduction of 1 to 1 presents a problem for the
"exam" logon accounts method.

Any ideas to the list please.

Interesting topic. We have done on line exams for quite some time,
particularly in the Mathematics and Business areas. I have always setup
"exams" accounts for them. However this strategy will not work with one
to one. We already have 4 year levels with laptops and that will become
five year levels next year. Whilst this year we have kept four computer
rooms, that will not be the case next year, we will probably drop to
just one. At this stage we are trying to come up with a solution to the
problem, so if anyone has a any suggestion, please share.

Kind regards

Hi Rex,

We've been doing our IT exams online for a while now and simply set up
the exam as a form in Word, which lets you have drop down boxes for
multiple choice questions, etc.

We experimented with a few ideas (and still are) and have found that it
works best if you have a separate exam account login for each child. At
the end of the exam copy these to a write only location that students
can't access so you have a copy of them. Some people like to lock the
exam accounts after the exam. I like to have control of the exam
accounts because there are usually students who have to do the exam at
different times - I can put exams in the accounts and take them out as
needed.

If you give them Internet access during an exam you have to be extremely
vigilant in your supervision. It can be done but it's difficult to
ensure the integrity of the exam.

Cheers,
Kym

With the exception of the end-sem exam last year, all of my "written"
IPT exams have been done with
pen/pencil and paper, and with NS Diagrams and CSDs hand-drawn.

What I am thinking about doing this term is having the students do the
written exam (on programming)
in a computer room, using Word, and using the on-line version of
Structorizer to do their
NS-Diagrams, or at least the more complex ones.

The students will be using separate exam accounts and not their own
school accounts, and will need
Internet access to use Structorizer.

Has anyone does this before? Can anyone see any problems that might
arise?

Cheers

Rex
