I think trying to take the mistake that President Bush made in his speech the other day and indicate that he really is looking for ways to destroy this country is going way too far. It was simply either a misstatement, which he is infamous for, or bad speech writing. It's funny, but to get anything more out of that is, in my opinion, ridiculous.

River, the DNC must have it wrong, too. This is a quote from Barack Obama's convention speech - right off the DNC Convention 2004 website. After he said what was quoted on Yahoo, he then talked about the red and blue states. The link follows.Well, I say to them tonight, theres not a liberal America and a conservative Americatheres the United States of America. Theres not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; theres the United States of America. The pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But Ive got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we dont like federal agents poking around our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and have gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and patriots who supported it. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America. And regarding the quote by Pres. Bush, everyone knows that he was saying that we never stop considering the possible ways our enemies can harm our country or our people. Just not artfully stated, but the clear meaning was there. To make it into anything else is really reaching.Jerry----- Original Message -----From: River WolfeSent: Sunday, August 08, 2004 6:51 PMSubject: Re:[QUAD-L] For those paying attention
"there is not a black America and a white America and Latino America and Asian America. There's the United States of America." V. Obama
This is a misquote from Yahoo as I heard the speech and I wrote the following "correct" quote down "this is not an America divided by red states and blue states, this is the United States of America" V. Obama.
