I’ve got the doctor’s orders, I’ve got the evaluation with an OT scheduled, but the rehab doctor will be hard-Santa Clara California is the nearest, 225 miles. I will have to ask around and find out who they use in Reno. We had a physiatrist here but she left for greener pastures after two years. It was the only time that I had a physiatrist in all 18 years. I use the doctors at UNR Medical and they have been very good to deal with, and I’m very happy with them.
I remember going through the work up 12 years ago when I got my second chair, but that was with private insurance. It still took eight months, so I am prepared for a long wait. My omega trac still works, and the company that bought TefTec is Next Mobility and they have been very good to deal with parts etc, telephone support, but I can only afford so much out of pocket. Thanks for the suggestions. That would included: A Doctor’s Order An Evaluation by certified Occupational Therapist A Rehab Doctor's Order for the chair's specific and the "codes" An estimate for the chair with all the necessary accessories by code are submitted and approved. Gov Insurance pays for chairs within those codes. Those chairs outside the approved codes will not be consider without special consideration and letter of need by your rehab doctor. I hoped that I would never have to look for another wheelchair, because I just love my omega trac. But since Medicare will not pay for repairs for it because I bought it privately and came into the Medicare System with a wheelchair, I have to start looking for a new chair. I want front wheel drive, enough power to get around outside-read that not on cement-with enough clearance to get over small rocks, 2s4s, low center of gravity because I am on a hillside. I have to have tilt and recline, I’ve always had elevating leg rests, but I hardly ever use them so they are not necessary. My omega trac has true tracking, when I go across the slope it does not try to move downhill, an air compressor on board which is extremely handy when I get stuck in the horse pasture, because I can raise the chair 4 inches to get over obstacles, tilt and recline, and will easily go up a 45°slope without trying to tip over. It weighs 450 pounds and is not the fastest maneuvering wheelchair out there. JBut is the first wheelchair I have felt comfortable and safe in. My first two chairs were quickie and Invacare storm, both of them broke down innumerable times, and I often ripped wires loose out in the brush, even though we tried to zip tie everything very tight. We are very limited as to DME’s, Med Tech really dominates the area and offers very poor service. So I am trying Accelance and hoping they have some expertise with high quads. Any suggestions before I meet with a sales Rep? Any of you familiar with center drive on rough terrain? It appears to me that I would get hung up a lot of times. I really like front wheel drive as I do not feel that I will tip over going uphill, as I did in both a quickie and Invacare. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
