Thanks for the response. I had forgotten the early skirmishes with
this problem. Did rebuild the desktop and zap the PRAM (though not in
that order) to no avail. I haven't gone into the Preferences folder yet
but that sounds promising. At the risk of offending the list's Spartans
could you give me suggestions as to what to look for. Regards, John.
