Hi Jim and everybody,
I went ahead and found that out, but thanks. I have also tried to boot
up from the OS 8.1 install disk with the computer upside down. At first
I didn't think I could do it, but it was a lot easier than it sounds.
Still no success. I'm wondering if I'm looking at a complete re-install
of the system software.
Actually an idea just came into my head (the hollow gong sound was
deafening). I wonder, if I booted up with system 7.5.5 from an external
HD, could I then try if the CD-Rom reader would see Mac formatted CD's.
If it did then that would prove that the problem was a software one. If
not then hardware would be the likely source of the problem. I'm not
sure these conclusions are valid, but I'll try the experiment.
Regards, John.
