Michael,

Be sure also to check (or just replace since it's inexpensive) the PRAM battery. This is located on the motherboard and provides power to maintain necessary info for startup, like date and time, etc. If I recall correctly, the 575, like the 630 series, uses an alkaline, instead of a longer life lithium, PRAM battery, and if that battery is shot, various odd startup problems can also result. Be sure to consult the archived info on the Low End Mac site about the 575 for additional information.

I recently acquired a Preforma LC 575, though it seems the hard drive
has died because whenever I start it I just get a flashing question
