Have you checked the grease on the little contact wheel inside the mech? After many years of working the grease can pick up small particles of metal which wears away from the contact wheel - it then has the lovely property of being conductive grease which then leaves the flaps doing exactly what you said. Pop the disc out, wipe it over and pop it back in. Matthew
