Hi All, thought I needed to supply an update.
Monday last week I put the EBay head into Evenden Engineering Nr Maidstone, for refurbishment. Collected the head on Saturday morning and refitted, same timing setup as before and the car started first time, let the ECU learn the engine and took it for a long spin around the block. Feels really powerful now ;-) I think I may have found the reason for both the original engine blowing the head gasket and the EBay one too. When I returned to the drive after the spin around the block I noticed water leaking from somewhere under the header tank, I then remembered it doing this when I initially fired up the Ebay engine but the water level dropped down to minimum on the tank and stayed like that without further loss until the head gasket blew. I removed the header tank and up underneath, just above the minimum water level I found a 3/4" split (20mm in new money) this appears to only let by when the engine is running and trying to get up to pressure, therefore dumping some of the coolant before then venting any attempt by the engine to increase the pressure any further. Located and bought a new item on EBay and am now standing at the letterbox like a cricketter in the slips. Thanks for the advice given previously, and hope to see some of you guys in the future.
