I couldn't agree more. I used to watch the programme until they
stopped discussing normal cars. My wife bought me his first book but I
only managed a few chapters before I thought pompous idiot and cast it
aside.

If I am right, it was Tony Cundy's H4 , number plate H4KIT, the first
"All New Kit in a Box" on the road, so it was built using pristine
Ford components throughout but they slated it as it did not do 0-100
in -2 secs, it had possibly one rattle and the dashboard looked like a
Fiesta.
As I was just finishing my H4 at the time, I was not impressed - at
all. It is one of many reasons why I stopped watching that particular
programme around that time as their means of judgement tend to be very
artificial with little link with the reality of what people really
want. Watching some ageing juvenile getting his nuts off driving an
exotic bit of machinery at speeds not possible on our roads whilst
making asinine, ill informed and inaccurate comments is not my idea of
entertainment.
