If you can make up a suitable plug to go in the fuel filler hole, could
you pressurise the tank with a hose to "pop" the dented section back out ?
A airline might also work but water is safer.
The float on all the Mk2 tanks i've seen has just been a sealed plastic
cylinder clipped into a loop on the end of the sender arm.

I have removed my coupe fuel tank and it is an injection one with the plastic
internal housing (swirl pot), fuel pump and sender. I have found the bottom
of the tank has been pushed in quite a long way and the fuel pump was hard up
against the bottom. The piping may have been bent to a different angle as
well, difficult to tell at this point. Also the float has broken, though the
sender does vary resistance with movement so this may be all that is wrong wit
that. (if the angle of the unit were OK)
The tank does not leak and I am wondering about trying to re shape it myself or
even send it to a tank repairers. Anyone got any experience of this?
Also using alternative floats - any suggestions? I cannot see any floats from
any car available separately so far they are all attached to senders.
I know the injection tanks are rare and recent investigations prove that
getting one made is very expensive. Alternatively, fitting a more standard
non-injection tank with external pump(s) and after market swirlpot is a
thought. If there can be any place found to fit the stuff as it's very tight
underneath! Again any experience of this?
Thanks
