The Switches usually have a plunger / lever that is pushed in when the door
closes and releases when the door is open.
So the first check would be to open door and identify the switch.
Then check that the interrior light is on. If the light is not on it check
the interior light - many have a switch built in to the light fitting that
allows you to switch the light on with the door closed.
If the light comes on with the door open depress the switch and check that
the interior light goes out.
If the light does not come on / go out then you will need to invetsigate
further with a multimeter....
