If you use the Ford ecu with all it's wiring loom etc it should still work.
You may need to leave other ecus in the car connected, some things missing
may just cause error codes, others may stop the engine working.
I don't know if things like the air bag ecu missing would make the engine
ecu not run.
You can fool the inputs to some ecu's if you have to have them connected,
air bags can be replaced with resistors, etc etc.
If you need a pulse signal you can simulate with little circuit.
If you are buying a accident damaged car the best thing may be to unplug all
the parts you don't need while the car is still complete and see what causes
errors and what stops the engine running.
You may need to keep the instrument cluster connected as they can be coded
to the ecu, if you can't fit it into your dash then maybe you can remove the
PCB from it and hide behind the dash.
If you talk to your local Ford dealer maybe they can tell you what parts are
coded to the ecu.

Hi Rolf,
The 1.0 eco boost is fited to a IB5 gearbox so it should fit to a BS . . . .
I hope - don't know about the starter engine so
I try to plan ahead - and found a low milage 1.0 eco boost engine - it pays
for it self at present/ rising petrol prices.
The question is how to control the emission as I want the CO2 gr/km & Euro5
level mentioned on the registration papers.
Aftermarket ECU's are not good at that . . .
Enginge changes - even the slightest change - now need to be reported to
the RDW/DVLA and they want to see the car and in some cases test the car at
their testing facitily.
I'll contact the RDW this week and ask what tests etc. are needed to get it
registerd correctly - before I buy the engine.

Hi Hans,
You could try Powertorque.co.uk for suppliing such an engine.
In true Ford tradition, any gearbox will probably fit .
You have to find out though, what ecu fits your requirements.
Can recommend Megasquirt based systems for easy involvent in tuning and
additional tasks.
C U soon,
Rolf
