Quantum were told they were being power coated but it wasn't, it was
just paint.
I don't think they were even sandblasted before painting, mine started
going rusty even before it was on the road.
Almost everything that has been painted on my 2+2 was done with smooth
Hammerite including the engine block and aluminium inlet manifold.
I think the main thing with it is that people expect to be able to paint
it on over rust, which doesn't really work.
If the metal is properly degreased and in the case of aluminium, the
proper primer used then it seems to stick pretty well.
However, i think they did change the formulation since i did most of the
2+2.

Can't say I'm a fan of powdercoating, and galvanising can give
distortion problems although it lasts well. All that's required (as
long as the metal isn't rusty before it's painted!) is to keep the
water/air away from it! A good galvanic primer, undercoat and topcoat
can give excellent results, and needn't be expensive. Brushed on
primer, undecoat and Dulux Weathershield gloss (no not the masonry
paint) gives excellent results and no brush markes if done properly.
Jin did a very nice job on his frame - Think it was Upol? Can you
confirm Jin?
IMHO the WORST paint for metal is Hammerite - absolute rubbish and
shouldn't be sold! rant over.

It's sad to see so many rusty engine frames, why make a GRP car
and then put a bit of metal on that goes rusty in no time, they
should have been galvanized or powder coated properly at least.

Hiya
No idea - there is nothing under the brake cylinder on mine, but
does not look to be enough room to add a battery. Perhaps the
radiator is moved across as well to make room for the headlight
assembly.
I have attached a couple of pics for interest.
Best regards

Quite a few diferances by the looks of things, the hinge
pivots are further appart , how come the battery is at the
front?, what sits in front of the master cylinder where the
battery lives on mk2 2+2s?
I too was under the impression the 2 fronts were
interchangeable, every day is a school day :)
