yes QC works well with local or remote files that are not streamed (i.e
progressive download) with either asynchronous enabled or not.
However, as soon as the source is steamed (from QT broadcaster for
example) QC freezes.

I could reproduce that using an HD video form Apple's website:

Quartz Composer seems to hang if the movie is not streamed fast enough. For me, the movie starts playing in the viewer but will eventually lag. When I then try to switch to full screen mode, Quartz Composer hangs. I'm not that familiar with stack traces, but after force-quitting Quartz Composer in this state, I think one can see that the hang occurs in some function calls that have to do with streaming.


Now, this is a good one too. If you happen to save your composition with
the patch referring to the url stream, then selecting the file in the
finder will also hang the finder too, which then needs to be relaunched.

Maybe the Finder does the same as Quartz Composer: Trying to stream the movie and hanging as soon as there is not enough data.
