will be copied too and so you don't have a "clean" Lion installation

Not just wrong in appearance but I can't select the templates nor
tips nor Getting Started… I upgraded to 10.7.4 in case… no joy.

Is this a hardware issue or a software thing? I tried turning of GPU
switching just in case doesn't change anything.
Also when I opened a 10.5 comp of mine that works fine in QC3 it
generated a mile long list of exceptions and I can't even get it
into the editor to see what's there and what's not restoring. Should
old comps just work in 10.7 or are there caveats?
