Roger, The downside of your approach is that you'll have to keep making those changes with every upgrade.
If you are going to use a break statement, would it be worth printing out the "offending" values in each switch statement? Tracking this information (especially if the data format for your model is documented somewhere) would make it much easier for somebody to upgrade the driver to support your model.
