If you are using Windows XP there are two things you can try to fix your 
problem.  One, run the System Restore utility to restore your operating 
system to a known good condition.  Or two, boot your computer from your 
Windows XP installation CD.  At the Welcome To Setup Screen ignore the 
Recovery Console option.  Instead press Enter and start the Windows 
Setup Program.  After you accept the license agreement, and reach a 
screen that list your current Windows installation, select it from the 
list and press R to start the repair process.
