QWS List QWS Won't Play

Hello,
 
As you can probably tell, I am new to the list.
 
I am trying to help my brother get qws going.  He has a new computer with
XP.  He has an integrated sound card (which he says he has disabled), and a
Sound Blaster X FI.  He says when he opens up a midi, he has 0 items.  I
have something like 19 choices.  When he presses the space bar, nothing
happens.
 
Any help would be appreciated.
