Hello. Options menu, and options. Alt O, o. The first option there is
preferred midi device.
This, is exactly what you want.

Hi,
I was just wondering if qws could be set from the very beginning to find
and use the default system midi out, instead of requiring that the user
set one up. This may avoid the "won't play" problem. The user can always
set the preferred port later.

Sounds to me as if he didn't open a midi, just opened the program. That
won't do. Get your brother to at least open the QWS default song
perhaps. Just a suggestion.

Hi,
Thanks for the emails regarding my problem. I will get more
information from my brother, and write back to the list. I forgot to
mention that he can play midi files using Windows Media, and I believe
Winamp. He said he opened up a midi, and that he had 0 items. When I
open up a midi, I get 19 choices. I think some of my choices may have
looked like instruments. After examining the list of items when I open
a file, I see that song001 in the QWS folder has one item, while a
file I have downloaded has 19 items. These consist of vocal, back up,
guitar, and other things that I can't remember now.

It sounds to me like you're opening up a MIDI file, whereas your
brother is only launching QWS itself. If he's stuck for MIDI files,
there are more often than not a few cheesy ones lying around in
c:\windows\media
- get him to open one of those up from the "Open" dialog of QWS and let
me know the results.
