I think ASIO would help. Also, take note that buffering in SynthFont is only
for when you're playing a file with the play to speakers option, not for
realtime midi input. Because of this, I would suggest you use the SyntFont
as a VST plug-in, because this gives you a more agile setup. Some of the
things I've done:
Use VST plug-in with VSTHost instead of standalone SynthFont.
Configure VSTHost to acquire very high priority.
Set Very High priority to VSTHost in the task manager (shouldn't be
necessary, but somehow it didn't got set for me).
Set my screen reader's priority to very low, and of late running with no
speech, one doesn't really need speech when recording.
Sometimes, going to engine -> restart on VSTHost helps.
The keyboard itself wouldn't have much to do with the chopping of the audio
or the lag of midi events, at least I wouldn't think so.
ASIO did make a very substantial difference for me. From a quite noticeable
delay, to about 10ms as far as I've been able to measure it (by quite
unscientific means though).
