The new Delta control panel isn't as accessible anymore, since about
April or May of this year. No easy way to change latency or routing
options in the patch bay. More bitmaps and weird controls that aren't
obvious by default.
They've taken most of the good old standard radio buttons and sliders
out.
This is annoying, since that driver fixed a lot of issues related to
streaming samples from serial ATA hard drives on Silicon Image chipsets.
Also, the drivers won't install under Windows XP SP3. If you already
have your Delta installed before you upgrade, it will work fine, but
they don't like to install properly afterward.

Soundmax was not designed to meet the needs you are asking from it

Hi again,
A few weeks ago I had trouble with synthfont and midi input. I have
changed keyboards and computer setups. Here's the new configuration,
along with new problems which I believe are easily fixed, I just
need your help.
Windows: xp home
Ram: 512mb
synthfont version: 1.2.1 or something like that
soundcard: sound max digital audio
Synthfont settings: buffer size 3072, number of buffers 3, I think.
(Jaws isn't really clear on where I'm at)
I am almost confident enabling Acio would help, but there is no
enable acio option! I'm guessing I need some acio drivers or
something? Now, I'm having an extreme lag in midi events, 150ms or
so. If I adjust buffering settings to decrease lag, sound breaks up.
Playback of midis with synthfont can be made very responsive with no
issues like the ones I'm having with midi input.
Any guidance?

I would still personally recommend m-audio's Delta series, even with the
accessibility issue of the new drivers. You can always use the old ones
(they are still easy to find), and the new ones are rock-solid ,if you
don't mind not having access to a few things quite so obviously.
I don't know much about their fw line.
Maybe even an Emu 0202 or 0404 would work for your needs, although it,
also, has an inaccessible control panel.
But, for basic things, you won't need to change much, if anything anyway.
