Hi,
You can't really replace it, you can just ignore it. when you install bassmidi, it shows up as one of your midi ports in most midi players and sequencers, like QWS. You then select that as your default port instead of Microsoft. Supposedly Bassmidi has a feature that will override another synth, so that it will just replace Microsoft. But I have yet to get that to work, and I really don't need to.

Hello,
what I am actually wanting to do, is replace the actual uilt-in GS wavetable to
another synthesizer, so that it will support reverberation and chorus effects.
Is that possible?

Yes, with the Bassmidi driver. Or you can use the VST plug-in called SFZ but I
personally think Bassmidi does better. They both have effects like reverb and
chorus and support for other GS and XG controllers. Or you could use synth Font
which doesn't have any effects, at least no built-in ones, but that thing has
evolved over the years to become a clunky piece of almost inaccessible software
which bassmidi easily beats for your purpose.
SFZ does work well on some things, the Onj font in particular. But since that's
not GM,, I'd assume you wouldn't really need that font.

Hello,
I remember once that there was a topic here on this list about the possibility
of replacing the GM synthesizer with another one. I saw this file in the hard
drive of my Windows XP machine entitled 2GM st.sf2. However, I cannot see this
file in my windows 7 machine. I wanted to use the Finale_synth_GM.sf2 file,
since it has a slightly better sound to their instruments.
Can someone give me more details about whether this can be done or not?
Thanks
