Hi James and everyone: First off thanks all for your help although I'm still slightly confused (grin) The song I am referring to is an oboe score which I scanned and saved as a midi file. The song plays as if it is a piano instrument. When I did the alt enter thing I set the instrument to oboe programme 68 it would appear and pressed okay. Then when I was prompted to save the file zi did so; however, when I played the file again it still played as a piano part. When I went to the settings they were saved as oboe. Am I still missing something? Thanks. Liz I do not have an actual midi keyboard but M using the pc is that the issue?

Ideally, I recommend that you set up all tracks by using the Init. Properties command on the Track menu. The shortcut is Alt+Enter. This will select the settings that you want, at the start of each track. It's best if you fill in all the boxes (unless you will never use some). Making sure that all the boxes are filled in will mean that you don't get any nasty errors when you load a new song and have settings left over from the previous one. There is nothing to stop you adding further program changes part-way through the track. You can do this either using the Change Properties command (again on the Track menu), or using the Editors or even in some cases, by pressing the buttons on your music keyboard. It's also worth checking, if you have more than one track in your song, generally, they should all have different MIDI channels (again, set this in the Initial Track Properties). If you want to remove program changes from part-way through a track, you can do this either with Tools or with Editors. I hope this helps, let us know how you get on. With best regards, James.
