There's a type of MIDI file, Type 2, which is specifically designed for pattern based sequencing. But it's a different approach to making music. And I've already sent him a boatload of suggestions -- in fact I still haven't heard back from him on my last one, so I suspect I overwhelmed him. (I have this idea for a program closely associated with QWS for live work)
