I think Anglo academic culture has much less insistence on respectfulness, seniority, and all those stifling aspects of certain other cultures I have been exposed to. I am not Anglo either, but I tend to think this aspect of it is a good thing. If one is to refrain from revisiting and criticising prior standards (even R5 has been pulled apart here), there would be hardly any point to the discussion. As for style, a spirited free-for-all is much more stimulating to the mind, not to mention entertaining, and may ultimately be more productive, than a careful toe-avoiding stalk. True, highly sensitive or status-aware individuals may not thrive in such an environment. In any case, I am pretty sure the business of delivering mortal insult was far from the OP's mind. _______________________________________________ r6rs-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.r6rs.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/r6rs-discuss
