It looks like it is a perennial truth of the universe that math is hard. I don't know of a language ecosystem where "equals" is 'easy', because it is subjective. Seems like offering different kinds of equality testing is a reasonable approach. Having any kind of preferred fundamental equality testing seems to have as many failures and problems as it has uses.
