The wireless chip is a different one than previously. However, you should not be seeing this. The Radio normally has pretty good range and is comparable to Boom.
Can you confirm your firmware version? It's possible to see these issues with factory installed firmware, and you shouldn't see them with the latest. However, if your firmware version is recent then its root cause is probably something else. Can you list what you see on the Diagnostics screen? (Go to Settings->Advanced->Diagnostics). Not sure the contents will be helpful, but it's a place to start.
