Wow. I'm glad I opted for a Boom for our bedroom and didn't get a Radio to replace my wife's alarm clock.
I have to agree that it's a pretty poor showing that a feature like this can't be made to work reliably. No, it's not a core feature, but it's certainly not a hidden feature.
