I get the disco alarm (I presume you mean the same Squeezebox default alarm) a lot of the time. It's because I have no internet connection so the Squeezebox can't connect to the radio stream that should play as my alarm. I think it's because my ISP turns off connections when inactive for a while (eg. overnight) and I suspect my router is too old to circumvent that.
