Few employers can put a dollar value on a single developers contribution to company revenue.
Even if you were making trainers in a Nike shoe factory, where your daily output could be measured precisely, your pay would still be limited by what it would cost for your employer to replace you. Your employer may consider the marketing and sales of the product to be much more valuable than the creation of it and so be biased that way. There are no hard and fast rules for negotiating pay. I think it often has a lot to do with perceptions, emotions and things that don't necessarily relate to your performance. - Mike On Mon, Apr 5, 2010 at 12:18 AM, Nathan de Vries <nat...@atnan.com> wrote: > On 04/04/2010, at 5:32 PM, Mikel Lindsaar wrote: > >>> I think the "what should I be paid?" question really doesn't relate to > job > >>> title at all - you should be asking "what would I be paid if I moved > >>> elsewhere?"
