One factor you may want to consider is whether you want to work at a
product company or at a consulting company. I may be mistaken, but
Melbourne seems to have more product companies than Sydney.

Regarding the friendliness of the RORO meetup events in the two cities, I'd
say that Sydney as well as Melbourne is trying to have talks for beginner
developers. If you go to
https://github.com/rails-oceania/roro/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+label%3Asydney-presentations
, you can see that the talks are being evaluated by their experience level,
and that people can request talks as well as volunteer to give them. I'd
say it's a difficult issue though. Unless people deliberately try to
address the issue, experts are more likely to give talks than beginners,
and are more likely to give advanced-level talks than beginner-level talks.
