I completely agree on this - users should get the best possible image quality in the shortest time possible. So there is probably no good reason to offer several different demosaic methods as ufraw does. But I noticed that color smoothing did in fact give me a better quality (at least for some of the samples I used). So, may be, it might be a good idea to do some extended tests and then just add color smoothing by default.
