John:  If you go into explorer, right-click on a CHM file and select "open 
with", what does it show?  Attached is a pic of what my windows 10 computer

I removed the two fonts in that folder and re-booted my laptop but still no 
luck with the first three items on the Help menu. The tutorial works though. Is 
there any difference in the 'mechanism' for running the help files ?  (The chm 
files are exactly the same as the ones on the laptop where Help does work.)

I did install a new font a while ago so I will try that later. (Just off out
