Just an update on this in case anyone is interested. Rather than using the 'interactive' File Gateway I used two command files with the mapping of the columns specified using the ADD_MAPPING option. Two tables with just under 50,000 rows with 41 & 34 columns were imported quickly and without any issues. While setting up the command files took a while it certainly made the importing a lot easier.
