Bob, all of my clients use RDP or Terminal Services (TS) for remote
connections. I have a land surveying company that even runs Autocad via TS
and the performance is satisfactory. The problem with RDP is that it ties
up a PC when you are connected. With terminal services you can have as many
connections as you have licenses for, all operating simultaneously. I have
one client that frequently has five simultaneous TS users active on one IP
address. In most cases the performance is excellent when running RBASE.
However, I do have a couple of forms in my applications that are very slow
when running via TS or RDP. Those are forms that include scrolling regions
with a lot of EEPs firing as you move through the fields.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Web Access Question

List,

Need some advice and ideas.

I have a complicated application residing on a server.

The client wants others to be able to access this application over the web
from off-site locations.

A web app is out of the question, I do not have the time nor expertise to
recreate this, it is constantly moving target!

Solo..

How do I allow multiple (maybe 5 or more) users to use this application over
the web?

Will remote desktop allow multiple users?

Is there a third party product that does this?

Do I need a bank of remote PCs attached to the server for each user to
access?

A couple years ago, I was hoping that client server would do this, but I
guess moving forms and data over the web is too slow. The R:Base
application tools and forms are just so easy and superior. I have not seen
a web app that can work like this. If I had the time, maybe, but this is
too far along to re-write and have all the rules and form doodads
recreated.

Any ideas appreciated, I am speaking to a network guy tomorrow sometime and
wanted some ideas.

TIA

Bob C
