I need something that deals with open files. I have a ms sql server running
for the cad user vault and need to backup that database as well.

It looks like the cobian backup supports volume shadow copy which I think
will allow the backup of open files and sql server databases.

So I think I am looking for backup software that will support VSS??

Dan,

One thing to be careful about when setting up your backups is how the
software deals with open files. We were using Ultrabac in our plants which
holds the file being backed up open in deny write mode. What started
happening is the tape filled while it had one of the .rb? files open. So it
sat there waiting for someone to replace the tape; meanwhile, nobody could
save any data. Disastrous!

We now make nightly archives of the database and have those backed up while
the .rb? files are specifically excluded from the backup.

I am looking for a good backup software to run on a server.

I know there is some like Symantec(VERITAS) backup but they are expensive.

TIA
