I would never think of auto log off after only 20 minutes. What a way to
invite data corruption!

I might consider 12 hours! That person is truly not doing anything and has
probably forgotten to log off or got disconnected.
It is very hard to explain to users the difference between logging off and
disconnecting.

Dennis,

Anyone that has access to the server console can check the event log and can
run Task Manager to observe the resources used. You can check the event log at
any time and it will show what warnings or errors were posted when RBASE failed.

John,

I asked my customer if Citrix can check the Task Manager (for each session?) to
see if RBase is running before killing an "idle" session in 20 minutes. Sounds
like a long shot.

Check memory usage, paging and CPU usage when the Citrix user is logged on (via
Task Manager).

Emmitt,

I know we've been down this road many times, but should we be exiting the user
after some predetermined time? Particularly Citrix (remote desktop) users.

My customer says, "Once Citrix detects inactive session (20 minutes), it will
automatically log them off."

Not sure exactly how they determine an inactive session.

TIA,

Dennis

Dennis,

I'd say it is unusual for corruption to occur with a user on the server
desktop, assuming the database files reside locally on that server. In this
case I'd look at how the server is tuned - if too few resources are dedicated
to applications as opposed to file/network services, you might see troubles.

If the files reside remotely from the server in question, then by all means
take a long, hard look at the network components.

One of our users with RBase running on Citrix- Remote desktop, has periodic
data base corruption. Usually index file 3 (occasionally file 2) which usually
indicates a network speed issue and unable to synchronize the data base. But,
since each user is actually a session on the server, shouldn't it be faster?
Just printer, keyboard/mouse, and screen forms sent to/from the remote PC?

TIA,

Dennis
