I would use remote desktop services or the citrix equivalent. That way the only
screenshots go over the internet and is encrypted, minimizing bandwidth.
With this, the server will need a decent upload speed and the users have a
decent download speed.

I would definitely not try to run the compiled app over the internet!!

I know RBTI has been playing with a server-client version of Rbase but have not
heard of a compiled-server-client version. That would be awesome.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - It's expand the network time
After several years of running our in-house, wired system, we are headed out
the door into the real world with 4-5 sites away from our main facilities and
multiple wireless laptops. Database itself seems to be running well. We will
use a network specialist to help with all the hookups and security issues with
combinations of cable/DSL/wireless Internet. The monthly service charges will
not be cheap. Is there anything in particular related to R:Base we should be
very aware of? Looked through the User group archive. VPN has speed problems
compared to terminal servers so I am looking at things like using variables in
views to limit rows transmitted to the specific rows needed. To get into our
system a password is required and a computer’s name must be registered in the
database. Using compiled 9.1 64 (0103 updates) which drops unregistered users
immediately. Our plan is to go slow, use my home and our IT guy’s home as the
initial connections, then move from there. Any suggestions appreciated.
