RBase work thru refuses to install VPNs on his customers that have client-based
databases (like RBase or Access) installed.  He considers the risk of 
corruption 
too great.

In addition to the risk of corruption due to slow remote disk access and 
interrupted commands, there's another danger of VPNs not related to database 
access.

When you admit a computer to your corporate network via VPN it's as if that 
computer were attached locally for security purposes.  But that computer could 
well be someone's home computer accessible to kids, etc.  If that computer 
becomes compromised with a virus you're potentially exposing your network to 
that problem.
