Good thoughts, but not the case.  This is a new form, created in RBase
for Windows, 3 expressions, 2 fields, no picture format stuff, and 
set blank = ' ' does not make it go away.  It's easy to reproduce.  The
1st field is the place where the user enters an abreviation such as
"HTN" for hypertension, the 2nd field is a look up field that ends up
with the 
value 'HYPERTENSION'.  If I tab over to the second field, and erase it
by just hitting the space bar, and then tab out of the field, the goofy
looking yyyyy string is left behind.  The 2 fields are tiered.

Any ideas?
