Marc, I had the problem of irregular backups in my 4.5++ application and included a routine that runs when the application is started that creates a copy of the datafiles in a BAKUP directory. The application does an Autochk prior to the backup to verify the integrity and exits if Autochk finds errors.
I only have single users accessing the application but it would not be difficult to set up for multiple users so it only runs when there is just one user connected.
