Without getting into a hemet war (gosh, I'm SICK of those), I'll say that, in order for me to choose to wear a helmet, I find it necessary to wear a cycling cap underneath to shade my eyes from above. Sunscreen on my neck and ears, sunglasses to protect my eyes from too much blinding glare, a loose-fitting button-down shirt (seersucker when it's clean and on top of the laundry pile) and I'm good to go.
