Hi David, Actually, this is the only the second major iteration. I originally had the bicycle equipped with a component selection that was roughly comparable to the one that was used on the old Bicycle Guide test bike (from 1996). A mix of Suntour drive components (both Superbe Pro and Cyclone) and Suntour Cyclone brakes, Bullseye hubs and Mavic MA-2 rims. I eventually upgraded the drive and brake components to all Suntour Superbe Pro. Just added the Rivendell lugged stem, when they first became available. I also replaced the original Bullseye rear hub with a Phil Wood hub, and the front wheel was built up with a Campagnolo Record low-flange hub.
Then, a couple of years ago, I began sorting out the components for the current configuration. I was able to pick up the Berthoud GB2886 handlebar bag for a very attractive price from Heron Bicycles, and fortunately had the necessary NOS Suntour wide-range front and rear derailleurs from stuff I picked up at various bike shops, along with a 6-speed set of Suntour Accushift barcons (it is a "clickshifter"). The Sugino XD2 crank and bottom bracket I purchased from Rivendell and the Nitto Campee touring rear rack (which accepts lowrider mounts) from an eBay seller. It's a nice bike, and I hope to do some "credit card" tours on it in the fall, possibly in New Mexico or Texas.
