Actually I don't see why they don't do eyelets a plenty on Roadeos for maximum options on a fast bike.
I don't think it defeats the purpose for light commuters, Randonneurs, or roadies. What I don't get it the placement of the chain stay eyelet for rear fender. How do you fender that?
