I've used the Arkel Randonneur rack (http://www.arkel-od.com/en/arkel-randonneur-rack.html) with their Tailrider Trunk Bag, both of which work as advertised. Not sure how much weight you'd want to put in it, but I've used it to carry work clothes, less shoes, during some commutes. As someone else posted, I want my rear lights to be visible, which tends, on my fenderless bikes, to rule out saddle bags. --Tom
