Doug: thanks for posting this; very very useful information. I hope (God willing) to replace the 559X1.35 Kojaks on the '03 Curt-built Rivendell with the (God willing) forthcoming Compass 559 X 32 extralights, and run them tubeless on Sun/Ringle EQ 21 rims using Orange Seal or Stan's and a Stan's rim strip. This gives me further hope.
FWIW, I heartily second tubeless + sealant as a very, very effective remedy against goatheads. On my Fargo I use Schwalbe Furious Freds. These must be the very lightest, thinnest, most-supple tires in the world, since a 622X (true) 50 weighs a [true, per Pelouze mail scale] 360 grams. I ride these tubeless with Stan's through goathead patches and live to ride further, the sealant closing the holes after a few meters of riding. It is very fun to hear the "spurt-spurt-spurt" of brief, temporary air loss and then have it stop as the sealant does its thing.
