You train for a hilly 200k by riding hills until you can do a hilly 100k and feel good afterwards. You train for a hilly 300k by riding a hilly 200k. You train for a hilly 400k by riding a hilly 300k You train for a hilly 600k by riding a hilly 400k
I'm only half being snarky. Each event in the series builds on the previous events. Each event is the training for the next one. If you finish the 300k and feel like you know you can't handle anything more, then don't do the next event. If you feel up to it, bring it on. Sleep arrangements are very personal planning exercises. This adventure series 600k has a time limit of 40 hours, and it is my understanding that a VERY strong VERY fast rider might have time to sleep 3 hours or so. On a 'normal' 600k, some people get a full night's sleep. Some nap in the lobby of rural Post Offices. Some get a motel room. The Orr Springs 600k, which is the 40 hour, 375 mile ride, the club will have a hotel room at mile 217. When you get there, if you want to nap for a bit, there will be a place to nap for a bit. Some will arrange drop-bags there, so they can take a shower and put on fresh clothes. It's definitely something that you work up to. I've done a couple dozen 200k events and a half-dozen 300k events but never a 400 or longer. That may change in the future, but it's not in the cards right now.
