Thank you all for the thoughtful and insightful responses. It's interesting how everyone's heart surgery experience lines up in some ways, and is unique to them in others. That said, everyone I've talked to ultimately had success.
I was told to stay off the bike until the surgery, which will be in July, most likely. Today, the Aids ride came through town here in Paso Robles, and I watched 2000-plus cyclists ride by!
